Stop the BoT Resolution on Settlement Claims

There will be a short Board of Trustees General Session this Friday to vote on a resolution authorizing a subcommittee to approve possible victim settlements. We kindly ask that all PS4RS members email and call the Board of Trustees during the next couple of days to respectfully communicate our position below.

“It has always been the position of PS4RS that we are sympathetic to the victims; and that whomever is responsible for the tragedies they endured should pay the price for failing in their duties to protect them. However, it has also always been the position of PS4RS that we respect the fundamental concept of due process. We must have the patience and resolve to allow all of the facts to be uncovered — as difficult as they may be to understand or accept — before reaching an ultimate conclusion regarding the University’s role in the Sandusky crimes. It is with these thoughts in mind that we must, once again, urge the Board of Trustees not to act in haste, but rather to allow the judicial process to take its course before addressing possible victim settlement claims against Penn State. The Trustees plan to meet this Friday to vote on a resolution authorizing a subcommittee to approve possible settlements. On behalf of the 15,000 members of Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship, we respectfully implore the Trustees to table this resolution until a judicial conclusion has been reached in the upcoming trials of Penn State officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz. Only then will the clarity be obtained that is needed to address the victims’ claims.”
